These are my links for November 11th through November 12th:

  • Performing a P2V conversion to VMware ESX Server using VMware Converter Enterprise – The single most popular use for virtualization, by far, is to consolidate physical servers to virtual servers. Absolutely, the easiest way to do this is to perform a physical to virtual (P2V) conversion. With a P2V conversion, you use either an imaging application or a dedicated P2V conversion application to take all data on a physical computer, move that data to the virtualized infrastructure, modify the drivers on the transferred operating system, and boot that converted virtual machine – now virtualized.
  • Download Compliance Checker – Compliance Checker downloads to a Windows desktop and the intuitive web-based interface requires little or no learning curve. Administrators simply point the product to the ESX hosts they want to test compliance against to perform the test immediately. The resultant compliance report provides a detailed rule by rule indication of pass or failure. Where compliance problems are found, users are directed to a detailed knowledge base for an explanation of the rule violated and advice on remediation. Compliance Checker should be downloaded by all VMware customers to assess and report on the security and compliance of deployed VMware servers against the industry standards – VMware Hardening Guidelines and the CIS Benchmarks for securing Virtual Machines and securing VMware ESX Server 3.x.
  • Tripwire ConfigCheck – Configuration Control for Virtual and Physical Infrastructures – Tripwire® ConfigCheck is a free utility that rapidly assesses the security of VMware ESX 3.0 and 3.5 hypervisor configurations compared to the VMware Infrastructure 3 Security Hardening guidelines. Developed by Tripwire in cooperation with VMware, Tripwire ConfigCheck ensures ESX environments are properly configured—offering immediate insight into unintentional vulnerabilities in virtual environments—and provides the necessary steps towards full remediation when they are not.
